About the Craftsman

I build high quality, beautiful boats using plans by well-known designers. I will work with you to personalize your boat or you can pick one that I have already completed.

All of my boats are built using high quality materials. I hand select cedar and hardwoods like cherry and mahogany and then mill them myself to insure quality. A "tried and true" epoxy system and fiberglass ties the wood working together to make a tough, strong hull. High quality varnish with UV filters makes your boat a floating work of art. Other options would be paint or an abrasion resistant coating for the bottom.

My great grandfather and his son were boat builders in Iowa. They started the Hafer Boat Company in 1896 and were in business for about 70 years. I am carrying on the tradition.

In the future, as workspace allows, I will be restoring old wooden boats and building new boats in the traditional styles using modern tools and techniques.
